19 May The Best Week for Birding

This morning I saw 30 species of birds in a 90 minute walk near my house! This is the best week of the year for birding because the warblers and other migratory birds are back and the leaves are not fully out so you can spot them more easily! Also with the warm weather we had in the last 2 days the birds are singing their hearts out!

Over the last 3 days I’ve seen the following 8 warbler species:

• Ovenbird
• Black-and-white Warbler
• Common Yellowthroat
• Black-throated Blue Warbler
• Yellow-rumped Warbler
• Black-throated Green Warbler
• Yellow warbler
• Chestnut-sided warbler

I’ve also had some white-crowned sparrows at my feeder last week. I do not usually see them in Sutton so I figure they were just passing through on their way further north.

This morning I saw a group of cedar waxwings as well. Beautiful bird!

On Saturday morning I visited the centre d’interpretation du Lac Boivin in Granby.

It was also an amazing morning for birding with 28 species. Some highlights were the pileated woodpecker that was very close to us as well as a deer that was munching on leaves a few metres away. We also saw a coyote crossing the road on our way.
