16 May Bird Hike Report – May 15 & 16
We had beautiful weather all weekend and the birds seemed to appreciate it on our walks at Hotel Horizon/Hutopia. A birding highlights of our Saturday group was a nest where we saw ravens and their young. Another highlight was a broad winged hawk that circled above us. On the Sunday hike the highlights were a black throated green warbler that perched and sang in a nearby tree giving us as much time as we wanted to observe it! We also got an excellent view of a blackburnian warbler with its brilliant orange throat posed in the sun near the top of an evergreen tree. Overall we saw mostly the same bird on the 2 days with 23 species each day and 28 species total. See below:
