Bird Report – Lac Spruce

It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning for birding and I had the goal of reaching lac spruce. In the past 5 years I’ve never reached lac spruce in these hikes as 3 hours is just not long enough to get there and back with all the stops we do for the the birdwatching. This goal necessitated a faster pace than usual but I think it was worth it to spend a bit of time at the lake.  Please feel free to leave a comment if your legs are burning today from the  5.3 km hike as I know you probably did not sign up for a challenging hike.

about 500 metres from the the lake there was a group of warblers singing including the magnolia warbler, the yellow-rumped and blackpoll warblers.  This was a really nice treat and also made it worth it for me to to go higher on the mountain. The Merlin App also picked up the Canada warbler which I have seen on this trail before but despite the app hearing it I did not hear it (and I did not add it to our list). With the dense leaves we were not able to get a good view of these birds. The only birds we saw clearly are the dark-eyed junco, blue jay, hermit thrush, turkey vulture and American robin.

I send a big thank you to the group – we were 11. A special thanks to Mackenzie and Ben who drove from Montreal in the morning to meet us at 7am!
