26 Jun Bird Report – Hutopia
The weather was damp and drizzly. After 8 weekends in a row with hot dry weather we can’t complain! 7 of the 9 birders in our group had not been birding with me before. At first the birds were quieter than usual. As we moved around we found some pockets of bird activity and overall were rewarded with some beautiful birds and nice surprises like a fly-by from a great blue heron! Some of the birds that posed for us were the cedar waxwings and the Yellow-Bellied Sapsuckers. The pair of Sapsuckers did several trips to their hole in a tree to feed the young that were inside!
Overall we were able to identify 23 species:
- Chimney Swift
- American Crow
- American Goldfinch
- American Robin
- Black-capped Chickadee
- Blackburnian Warbler
- Cedar Waxwing
- Chestnut-sided Warbler
- Chipping Sparrow
